People of the World.
Artist Statement
I decided to change my big idea from power to binaries. The route that I decided to go with for my subject or theme was the type of people in the world and despite how different they may look on the outside, there are some aspects of their individual lives that make them very similar. What really inspired me was doing the blog post where we had to choose two artists and post some of their work. Justin Maller’s work was what caught my eye. There was a piece that had a man in it who looked as if he had two different personalities. From this picture I came up with the idea of putting two different images side by side of myself, and at the same time I represent two different types of people. In the background, however, I put in images that show how both sides can be related. What I did to get my ideas for the type of people I would portray I thought about high school and all of the cliques that come along with it. Therefore, I did a picture with me as a nerd on one side and the jock on the other using Photoshop to really enhance my look for both. Then, I went in and added two sets of friends; they are making fun of the nerd and talking behind the jocks back showing neither the jock or nerd have true friends. I also made myself rich and poor, and then added in what looks like arguing parents in the background of both sides displaying that despite the lifestyle one may live parents still fight. In the end I wanted my project to come across as a learning piece that shows how we can be connected to each other somehow and not even know it.
